The dutch architect Wiel Arets and the Italian architect Benedetta Tagliabue, co-founder of the studio EMBT (Eric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue); the German journalist and curator Kristin Feireiss; the English creative Director of BBC and Honorary Fellow of RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Alan Yentob; the President of the Yale University School of Architecture Robert A.M. Stern.
The President of the Jury will be elected by the members at their first meeting in the next days.
The task of the International Jury is to award different prizes among the 112 participants of the International Exhibition, as the Golden Lion for the best project and the Silver Lion for the promising young architect.
The Jury will have also to award the Golden Lion for the best National Participation, which are expected to be 55 nations, with 4 new entries: Angola, the Republic of Kosovo, Kuwait, and Peru.
Another prestigious prize is the Golden Lion for the Lifetime Achievement, which has been already awarded to Alvaro Siza Vieira by the Board of Biennale, Paolo Baratta and David Chipperfield.
All the other events happening besides the main exhibition are not competing for any prize. These are the “collateral events” disposed all around the city: 18 exhibitions and events with different curators and contents.
One of this is “Viagem sem programa”, an exhibition dedicated to Alvaro Siza’s career that will take place in the Fondazione Querini Stampalia; Salon Suisse will be a series of debates and public conferences about contemporary Architecture, organized by Pro Helvetia Swiss Arts Council. The island of San Giorgio Maggiore will be the venue for “Life Between Buildings”, containing the visions of the Danish architect and urban designer Jan Gehl about the urban space as opportunity for encounters and social life.
