The Italian excellence is famous all over the world in many sectors. In particular the province of Belluno has as its flagship Cadore, kingdom of the eyewear production.
Here, between the Dolomites Mountains, for more than forty years, from 1964 to 2007, the Foves factory has been creating high quality eyewear, made with care and passion.
Thema Optical, a leading eyewear company founded in 1971, headquartered in Domegge di Cadore, has decided to bring back to life the unique pieces of Foves, buying in 2014 all the machineries, materials and the original equipment. A blast from the past and its history, in order to bring to light the craftsmanship and attention to details that has always characterized the history of Belluno, building new small masterpieces.
The main idea is to emphasize the importance of the time that is at the basis of every single pair of glasses, a kind of handwork that has characterized the history of the eyewear sector in Cadore. It is also a way to honour all the local artisans and their history of work and dedication.
Each item is handmade, frame after frame, a temple after another, following the historical patterns of Foves, with materials that make each piece unique: to realize them, in fact, they use acetates and vintage materials, such as the original hinges, currently unobtainable.
Sixteen models, sixteen snapshots that reminds us of the shapes that were fashionable from the 60s to the 90s, the timeless style icons, a celebration of the golden years of the eyewear sector in Cadore.
Thema Optical is not new in bringing back to life the vintage eyewear lines: in fact, another fundamental part of the company is the Philosopheyes line, and also in this case the fundamental points are the vintage shapes, characterized by a particular milling along the edge.
These are two major lines of glasses, not only for the realization peculiarities, but also because of the values that they convey: the will to enclose in a single piece Belluno’s eyewear production’s history and the aim to emphasize a tradition that has lasted since the nineteenth century.
