Giacomo Berardi, Jake for his friends, is 27 years old. He is PR for a famous sportswear brand, a successful blogger and trend setter. He comes from Puglia, a beautiful region in the south of Italy, but he lives in Milan since years. I caught him while having a relax break in his beloved Puglia.
Giacomo Berardi, per gli amici Jake ha 27 anni. PR per un famoso brand di sportswear, blogger di successo e trend setter. Pugliese ma da anni trapiantato a Milano, l’ho intercetto durante una sosta di relax nella sua amata Puglia.
S: Hi Jake, where are you?
G: I am in a my “spiritual refuge”. To get our mind and body recharged some times we have to go far…but not so much!
S: Ciao Jake, dove sei?
G: In “rifugio spirituale”. Per ricaricarsi mentalmente e fisicamente a volte, bisogna fuggire lontano… ma non così troppo!
S: Where are you exactly?
G: I am in Puglia now, Savelletri exactly. I am in the Masseria San Domenico, which was an observation tower in the XV century. It faces on the Adriatic sea and it has been switched into a resort with a wellness centre using mostly the technique of thalassotherapy. The place, as often happens in this region, is completely surrounded by olive trees…it is a real paradise!
S: Dove sei di preciso?
G: Ho scelto la Puglia, precisamente Savelletri. Sono nella Masseria San Domenico, un ex Torre d’avvistamento del XV secolo! E’ sul mare Adriatico, ed è stata trasformata in un resort con centro benessere che punta sui trattamenti di talassoterapia. Immerso negli ulivi, un paradiso reale!
S: There is good food over there, isn’t it?
G: Definitely! Food is the strong spot of this area. I usually have my favourite dishes at Corte in Fiore in Trani: the spaghettoni di gragnano with the sea urchin meat, troccoli with squills and sea bream and with a sprinkle of breadcrumb and rosemary. If you are in this area you can’t miss a visit to the historical Caffè Tripoli at Martina Franca where you can have great cakes like boconotti with cream and sour cherry. Another good place to try is in Andria and it is called “Antichi Sapori” where Pietro Zito looks for the best cheeses and natural herbs. There, you also have to try their yellow pumpkin soup with spelt, fried sposale and sheep milk cheese!
S:Si mangia bene da quelle parti vero?
G: Direi proprio di si. E’ il “piatto forte” della zona. I miei piatti preferiti li fanno da Corte in Fiore a Trani: spaghettoni di gragnano alla polpa di riccio, i troccoli con canocchie e dentice al pan grattato e rosmarino. E poi merita una sosta lo storico Caffè Tripoli a Martina Franca dove si assaggiano i boconotti con crema e amarena. Un altro posto da provare è ad Andria, da “Antichi Sapori” dove Pietro Zito ricerca formaggi migliori ed erbe spontanee. Non ti puoi perdere la minestra di zucca gialla con farro e lo sposale fritto e pecorino!
S: There is some place in particular that you want to advise me?
G: On the coast, built on steep rocks, there is Polignano a Mare. It is a stop of the world’s cup of diving since many years. Also the city of Monopoli has to be visited, which is famous for the long sandy shore of Capitolo, coasted by sandy dunes covered with the Mediterranean vegetation; here it is possible to relax on natural wood beds of one of the exclusive lidos of the area, like the Coccaro Beach Club. Ostuni, the whitest city of the world, with its cathedral of the XV century with the portal and the rose window with 24 rays is a real rare beauty.
S: C’è qualche posto in particolare che mi consigli?
G: Sulla costa, arroccato su ripide rocce, c’è Polignano a Mare, da anni è tappa della coppa del mondo di tuffi d’altura. E poi Monopoli, città famosa per il lungo arenile di Capitolo, costeggiato da dune di sabbia ricoperte di macchia mediterranea.; qui ci si rilassa sotto ombrelloni in canne d’Africa o sui lettini in legno naturale in uno dei tanti lidi esclusivi della zona, come il Coccaro Beach Club ed Ostuni, la città più bianca del mondo con la cattedrale del XV secolo con portale e rosone a 24 raggi di rara bellezza.
S: The most beautiful beaches?
G:Torre Guaceto: a seacoast area which is preserved and recognised as natural reserve with an old tower surrounded by secular olive trees and high sandy dunes.
S: Le spiagge più belle?
G: Direi Torre Guaceto un’ area marina protetta e riserva naturale con un’antica torre costiera circondata da ulivi secolari, zone umide e alte dune di sabbia.
S: What about culture?
G: Never as this year in Puglia there is a so rich calendar. In the spectacular Grotte di Castellana, a speleologic complex, every weekend it is possible to assist to Hell in the Cave, an event that unifies the famous lines of the Divina Commedia to multimedia projections and aerial choreographies. In Giovinazzo the extraordinary exhibition of contemporary art called “Destroy” will take place in August and in Castel del Monte you will find a great retrospective of De Chirico’s work.
S: A proposito di cultura?
G: La Puglia, mai come quest’anno ha un calendario ricchissimo. Nelle spettacolari Grotte di Castellana, complesso speleologico ogni sabato e domenica, si puo’ assistere a Hell in the Cave, evento che unisce i celebri versi della Divina Commedia a proiezioni multimediali e coreografie aeree. Ad Agosto non perdetevi a Giovinazzo una straordinaria mostra d’Arte Contemporanea Multimediale chiamata ” Destroy”. E a Castel Del Monte, la bellissima retrospettiva dedicato a De Chirico.
