Photos by Ryan Florig
Ryan Florig is a 24 year old self taught photographer who currently lives in Washington DC. Born in Florida, raised in Georgia but calls Texas home. Around sixteen is when he started taking a lot of pictures with disposable cameras documenting times with friends from skateboarding to shenanigans. Later he was introduced into lomography that soon inspired him towards street photography. He spends his free time riding through the city on his bike and capturing the lifstyles DC has to offer. After another year he plans to move somewhere new to do the same.
1) When did you start to think about photography?
At sixteen when i was moving back to Florida I took photos of my friends before leaving. After that I realized I need to document more times with friends.
2) What does photography mean to you?
To capture a moment you want to remember forever. When Im a old man I’ll look at all my photos to relive my life.
3)Which kind of photography do you like best?
Street photography because nothing is staged and its things that happen on a daily basis that aren’t noticed.
4) When you take a portrait, what is important for you?
It depends on who the subject is. Most of the time I don’t like any facial expressions.
5) Do you think it’s important to follow a school to learn how to shoot?
No, unless your not comfortable with your work. You will benefit with school but I don’t feel its a must.
6) What’s the photo you want to take and you never did?
There was a clothing donation box with a bum halfway in with his feet only sticking out. I don’t know why I just rode by on my bike with disbelief.
7) What’s your photo-mission?
Hopefully to get some photos published and into galleries. Either way I will keep traveling and taking photos.
hell yeah ryan. get yo shit
Followed this web site to see what it is about & will be checking bit every day. The street photography that you do is amazing, you should be a free lance photographer & sell some of this stuff to magazines & newspapers. Bill
You are an inspiration keep it up, follow the dream man.
hahahha, yes! this is probably my favorite feature on positive.
WOW! I AM SO IMPRESSED RYAN. I THINK YOUR PHOTOS ARE AWESOME. THE WORD TRUE LIFE COMES TO MIND! I ALWAYS THOUGHT YOUR PHOTOS WERE GREAT! ANYBODY CAN USE A CAMERA AND TAKE A PICTURE. BUT NOT EVERYBODY CAN CAPTURE LIFE ON FILM! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! AND I THINK THAT IT’S REALLY NOT WORK TO YOU BUT ITS…LIFE!
Great interview! I think this talent needs a full website, not just a flickr account. Hope that’s in progress…
Otherwise, a fresh name to put out there, and I look forward to seeing similarly innovative interviews. This is exactly the type of material online magazines need to cover.
get it, girl!
