Could you tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?
My name is Steffen, I am 28 years old and from Berlin, Germany. To pay my bills I work as a male nurse but at home I am a loving partner and future father.
How would you describe yourself and your personality?
I guess I am a shy but friendly guy with a huge interest on our planet and its future.
What inspires you? Who were the first artists that inspired you?
My fiancée and the daily life inspire me the most. There are so many great artists with really good work so it’s difficult to choose only one person. But because I’m very into documentary photography I have to mention the Magnum agency and their photographers.
How did you start taking photos?
I started to take photos as a little boy with my father’s camera but when my fiancée gave me a Lomo camera as a birthday present, things were starting to get serious.
What do you want your viewers to take away from your work?
I’m already happy when people just recognize my work and look at it for a while.
Do you take portraits? And if so, in a portrait, what is important for you?
I’ve only taken portraits of my girlfriend until now. If she is happy with them, I am happy too.
Do you think it’s important to follow a school to learn how to shoot?
For me photography is only a balance next to my stressful work. In my opinion you should visit a school if you plan to make career with your pictures. I think if you just spend some time on testing your skills and equipment and if you aren’t afraid to make some mistakes you can learn everything else on your own.
Is there a personal project that you’ve had in your mind that you haven’t done, and that you probably will never do?
If I had started earlier I would have been able to take many beautiful pictures from my grandmother. Unfortunately it’s too late for it now.
Where’s one place you dream of taking photographs?
I really like Nordic landscapes which are peacefully and quiet so I would say somewhere up in the north.
Why do you take photos?
To catch and share special moments in my life.
What keeps you going?
Life goes on either in a positive or a negative way. So we should keep on moving.
