Photos by Sander Meisner
Born in 1979 Sander Meisner is an Amsterdam based photographer, specialized in medium format film photography using long exposures and available (artificial) light. He mostly likes to use TLR camera’s because they require a slow methodical way of picture taking.
Sander is a self taught photographer, about three years ago he bought his first 35mm SLR and started taking photographs of places he liked at night, his work started to deal about a certain kind of subject matter and a certain kind of light.
He photographs the urban contemporary landscape. Most of his work is done in the outer areas of Amsterdam, he photographs the concrete manmade structures in industrial estates and places that are places of passage, nobody stays here longer than needed. Sander likes to photograph unexpected places that aren’t pretty at first glance, but when photographed in the right way at the right time in the right light they can transform into something beautiful.
The series depicted here is called In Between and deals with such places. The places are in between time, in between used and disused, in between old and new, they are places of transition, of movement, movement of people entering and leaving (but nobody staying), but also they are moving themselves.
All these photographs are taken between 2007 and 2009 in Amsterdam, London and Iceland.
